SIMPLY THE BEST

22 Oct

Yesterday I posted a piece about the traits of successful people that the MW team are studying and analysing closely. We are inspired by the triumph of people who achieve great things in spite of great adversity and resistance. I spoke yesterday about having a plan…a written plan so that clarity in terms of an end goal are clearly articulated. Another characteristic successful people have in common is the fact they are constantly going through the necessary steps to improve themselves. They are learning and reading and going to lectures and listening with the explicit intention of becoming more expert in their particular field. Successful people very often don’t go after money as an end goal. They pursue their passion and expertise with every ounce of their being and money becomes the happy by-product of the value they are able to bring. Most successful people are not satisfied by being good at what they do. They strive continually to be the best. The best they can be, the best product they can offer, the best service they can supply. The message is clear…don’t settle for good…get better and aim for BEST.

THINK IT THEN INK IT

21 Oct

When thinking about people we admire in our own industry and others, the MW team have started to identify specific traits that the successful people we hold in such high esteem have in common. Right up there at the top of the list is the fact that successful people constantly define and refine their vision, aim and purpose. If we are going to aim for a dream and really go for it it is our duty as entrepreneurs and personal brand ambassadors to constantly seek clarity in articulating our end goals.  We need to keep revisiting the definition of our vision until we are absolutely clear about what it is  we intend to achieve. How else do we keep on track? If the message you are giving yourself and others is vague or wishy washy there is little chance of manifesting anything specific. So…grab a pen and a notepad and start writing. Write in as much detail as you can possibly manage. Be clear about all aspects. If you intend to build a business with a turnover or 1 million rand a month write that down! If you intend to build  a business with a turn over of 10 million rand a month write THAT down. Be specific. How else do you expect G-d/Source/The Universe or whatever you choose to call the higher intelligence to know exactly what to deliver to you? Ready? Get set…..write!

MAVERICK WAREHOUSE KICK STARTS TEAMS AND PEOPLE IN SEPTEMBER

2 Sep

The MW team are so grateful to be doing what they do best this Spring…revitalizing and inspiring teams and individuals for their clients using their unique and effective methodology. The Mavericks love what they do and it shows because the passion and energy they pour into their team builds and training programs is rewarded by them enjoying the happy, empowered  groups and individuals who have benefited from their work. Using their background in the Performing Arts, the MW team have devised a way to bring the discipline and technique of their world and of course a bit of the magic as well into the corporate environment with astonishing results. “All the world’s a stage” said William Shakespeare and MW have made that true in boardrooms, training workshops, team builds and more. So we say “DO put your daughter (and your son) on the stage Mrs Worthington”…at least for a little while so the Mavericks can help them experience what real magic feels like.

IS JAKE BUGG THE COOLEST KID IN THE UNIVERSE? THE MW TEAM THINK SO

There is that strange and beautiful experience when one comes across quite by chance an artists that speaks to your soul. Reminiscent of all the pain and longing that came along with youth, Bob Dylan, Hendricks and the Beatles but with something so new, fresh…prompting a surreal realisation that one is witnessing the rarest of all things…the blossoming of pure genius. Jake Bugg we love you.

COLLECTIVE MAVERICK UNCONSCIOUS

13 Jul

It does not come as a surprise that Apple’s brand new release in the already beautiful world of technology is called the “OS X MAVERICKS”. All over the internet and bristling across the ether we hear the word “MAVERICK” being whispered, blogged about shouted, and discussed. The question remains eternally…was maverickness already vibrating in the collective unconscious? Is it now being accessed by individual psyches simultaneously and globally? That being the case we are proud to announce that we were amongst the first to proclaim ourselves MAVERICK and although it is not always been easy it is good to know that even Apple has finally followed suit.

MAVERICKS PREPARE TO TAKE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL BY STORM

12 Jul

The MW team is hard at work preparing for the Edinburgh Festival. Maverick Creative Director Kathy-Jo Wein is also co creator and director of the smash hit musical DRUM STRUCK along with her old friend and partner Warren Lieberman who is producing and co directing. DRUM STRUCK is appearing at the prestigious 740 seater Assembly Hall as part of the South African Festival. Lara Foot’s extraordinary Marion and Solomon starring Janet Suzman is also part of the program. DRUM STRUCK this year features a brilliant and funny narrative about the legendary UBUNTU QUEEN played by the sensational Tiny Modise.  An all star cast, a clever and funny story AND every audience member gets their own drum to play! If you are in Edinburgh come and see the show and help us spread the word UBUNTU in the theatre, the festival, Edinburgh, Scotland and ultimately of course…the WORLD!

INTERNATIONAL THEATRE THAT IS PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN

23 Jun

The MW team went to see Lara Foot’s masterpiece at the Auto and General Theatre on the Square. It stars Dame Janet Suzman and the brilliant Khayalethu Anthony. We felt so connected to the piece having worked with both Brett Goldin whose tragic and senseless murder inspired the work and Mannie Mannim whose genius lighting design is like another silent but beautiful character in the story. The bittersweet story of an unlikely friendship, the unspeakable pain of loss, the unbearable contradictions of this country and the people who live here. It re affirmed all the spectacular achievements that local performing artists can and do produce and made us very proud to be associated with all things South African and all things that are unique to us.

MAVERICK WAREHOUSE IS DRUM STRUCK

16 Jun

This year is the first time since its inception in 2001, that two touring casts of the smash hit musical phenomenon DRUM STRUCK will be traveling simultaneously to different parts of the world.  Co created and directed by MW Creative Director Kathy-Jo Wein, DRUM STRUCK has been a much loved show on the Japanese entertainment calendar for the past six years. This year, a second cast will be appearing on the Edinburgh Fringe at the coveted 770 seater the Assembly. DRUM STRUCK has a brilliant new book written by prodigious South African writing talent Stephen Francis. The tone is wickedly irreverent and funny in the style of Book of Mormon whilst maintaining it’s warm, engaging family appeal. All the brilliant musical numbers and interactive drumming scenes that have made this production unique are cleverly featured in the story of the Ubuntu Queen. Mega talent Tiny Modise plays the Ubuntu Queen and mesmerizing singer/song writer Wendy Oldfield is DRUM STRUCK Edinburgh’s quirky special surprise. The South African contributions to major international arts festivals, the biggest of which is Edinburgh, continues to make the MW team extremely proud and this year promises to be the best one yet.
